DEEP FRIED ART, DESIGN AND JOURNALISM OF CONNOR “CORNDAWG” NEWELL

This past week, I had the chance to see White Reaper play with Lip Critic and World’s Worst at Ace of Cups, White Reaper is one of those bands that I’ve gotten to see more than once over the years and they truly never disappoint there’s a reason why they have the album title “Worlds Best American Band”, just a damn good rock show, if they stop in a city near you or you can travel out to one of their shows please do so! Lip Critic is a band I had the opportunity of seeing a few months back at Dirty Dungarees so when I saw they were on the bill for this show I was more than excited they blend some very interesting production style beats while including two drummers. One of those bands that if you see live you’re not going to ever forget. Worlds Worst was solid, truly enjoyed their set. It’s become a favorite thing of mine to get their early and listen as much music as I can, you never know what you could stumble upon, Worlds Worst is definitely not the worst!

Thursday, I went out to Black Swan to see my friends in One Eyed Mama play their final set of 2025. While most of their set is cover songs, their few originals have become some of the tracks I happily return to when I get the chance to play them on-air. To play a total of 3 hours of music is something that is inspiring whether it be covers or originals. Something to be said about that for sure. Hoping to hear more new tracks from these guys in the future.

Friday I spent as much time as I could at Vibe Society! Always a good time hanging out at Rehab Tavern with the Vibe Family, each month it’s something new and different than I’ve seen before and it truly is one of my favorite monthly events. Always happy to get to be involved with interviewing and sharing the music that this showcase provides to Columbus. Always a night of unforgettable performances.

Saturday, I got to see Trek Manifest and the A1 band perform and record a live album at Natalie’s in Grandview, it was honestly a perfect evening of music to soothe the soul. One of those performances that was both inspiring and just brought overall comforting vibes. This is one I’m really excited to hear the final version of the live recording! As all of the music was performed in my opinion flawlessly, I enjoy a good live album as well, I feel as though not a lot of bands do live album recordings anymore and I think that’s always a good way to experience a band if you can’t see them live and in person.
